Beautiful Shiva Eye and Paua/Abalone Shell earrings set in solid sterling silver.
Found in warm seas worldwide the shell of the abalone is exceptionally strong and is made of microscopic calcium carbonate tiles stacked like bricks.Abalone shells are noted for their multi coloured, iridescent, mother of pearl lining. The shells are cut and polished to display their brilliant rainbow colours.
Discovered on the seabed in the shallow tropical waters of Thailand and Indonesia, the Shiva Eye gem is actually the protective door found at the opening of the Turban Snail's shell, which towards the end of the snail's natural life, detaches and sinks to the seabed.
The colour of the swirl can vary, but the shell is always white or pale.
